"Day Of Infamy": The day that the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. Described by FDR as a day that will live in infamy, meaning fame gone bad.
The battle of Pearl Harbor was a surprise military attack done by the Japanese. It was against the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii territory. This attack led to the start of World War II. The attack happened at 7:18 am and was attacked by 353 imperial Japanese fighter planes, bombers, and torpedo planes. All eight U.S. navy battle ships were damaged and four sunk. 2,402 Americans were killed and 1,178 were wounded. The following day, U.S. declared war on Japan and the day after that Germany and Italy declared war on the U.S.. It is now known as a war crime because the attack happened without any warning and no declaration of war.

Pep Band this year has been so fun for Me. My commitment to it has been better than it ever has, I have played at every single game and even though I am a cheerleader, I only missed playing a few songs. I think I deserve an A for my contributions because I played all required and optional games, I was always working to improve certain parts in the songs that I had trouble with, and played with all of my effort. Pep Band is such an important part to Newark Band. It keeps us fresh on learning new and different styles, The music is something way different than we are all used too, and it's a great way to see progress on the songs over the years and how each individual gets better. I have a lot of songs that I like and dislike in Pep Band, the top 3 are: 1. Wipeout 2. Best of Queen 3. Seven Nation Army. I picked all of these songs because I love the flute part for all of them so much as well as the tempos for each. Great songs to hype up the crowd! My bottom 3 are 1. Frozen 2. chicken dance 3. Scooby Doo. I really don't like how dragging these songs are, the parts are boring and not "peppy" enough for Pep Band. I have improved the most on Wipeout measure 5, I used to always make mistakes in that entire section, but now I can play it with ease and no mistakes. The number one song I want to play is Sweet Victory by David Glen Eisley!!!!
I just completed my smart music scales and I am extremely satisfied with the outcome. I got 100% on all of my scales. I had no trouble with any of the scales and I think that I have each one down! The first piece we were given is called Rejoice the Season, this one lookes relatively easy to me. The only thing that could be a challege is being on beat for all the little high triplets. There is also time changes in this song so that is something I am gonna have to look out for as well. The last thing for that song would be to carry out with all of the crescendos and slurs because there is a lot of both. The next song is How the Grinch stole christmas, which I am so so excited for! I will have to really pay attention to staccatos and slurs because they switch off throughout the song. In this song their also a lot of sharps and naturals that are thrown into the song. Overall this song will be fairly easy I think. The third piece given to us is Once in Royal David's City. This one has a lot of triplets and descending scales which can be tough depending on the speed of the song. There are many key changes, I need to highlight those or else I will forget about them! I also feel as if there is a lot of style changes in this song so that could be a bit of a challenge. The final, and probably the most difficult piece, is Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24. This song has a lot of accents and slurs in it. I think it will take a lot to get everyone on beat because it seems there will be many things going on, but I have no idea yet. I do want to know how fast this song is because the descending and ascending notes at the end of the song may be difficult! I cannot wait to play all of these songs and see how my impressions change once we play them!Bb major: 2 flats B,E- Bb C D Eb F G A Bb g minor:2 flats B,E- G A Bb C D Eb F G Eb major:3 flats B,E,A- Eb F G Ab Bb C D Eb c minor:3 flats B,E,A- C D Eb F G Ab Bb C F major:1 flat B- F G A Bb C D E F d minor: 1 flat B- D E F G A Bb C D Ab major: 4 flats B,E,A,D- Ab Bb C Db Eb F G Ab f minor:4 flats B,E,A,D- F G Ab Bb C Db Eb F C major: no flats- C D E F G A B C a minor: no flats- A B C D E F G A G major: 1 sharp- G A B C D E F# G e minor: 1 sharp- E F# G A B C D E Gb major: 6 flats- Gb Ab Bb Cb Db Eb F Gb eb minor: 6 flats- Eb F Gb Ab Bb Cb Db Eb D major: 2 sharps- D E F# G A B C# D b minor: 2 sharps- B C# D E F# G A B A major: 3 sharps- A B C# D E F# G# A f# minor: F# G# A B C# D E F# E major: 4 sharps- E F# G# A B C# D# E c# minor: C# D# E F# G# A B C# B major: 5 sharps- B C# D# E F# G# A# B g# minor: G# A# B C# D# E F# G# These past couple weeks in band, a main thing we have been learning is how to play minor and major relative scales. To go from a major to minor relative scale, you go to the 6th note or the La of the major scale. That note is the starting note of the minor scale, they are relative because they will have the exact same key signature!
This 9/11 preformance had to be great. Not only because it is a day we should honor and respect, but also because I needed to redeem myself from last years preformance. WE as a band needed to redeem ourselves from last years preformance! We did just that. For me, I barely made any mistakes and the flute section overall had great tone and was very on key. All of songs ran without problems and I think we put into music, what 9/11 means. My baseline smart music score was 90%. In the future I am going to have to do a more difficult smart music test because of how high the score was, I am excited to see where I stand in a more difficult test!
I just got done completing the pre-test and it was a little bit rough for me. I definetly think I need to refresh on some symbols and scales. My problem is that I can understand what is happening while I am playing a song but when it's not on my music or am not comprehending the symbols with the music, I have a lot trouble remembering them. Otherwise, the only other thing on the prestest I had trouble on was the counting and some of the scales, which I discuss in my previous post about my first year goal.
